Backstory
Blended and Black member, Shell’s parents divorced when she was 12. She went from feeling like the apple of her father’s eye to being stunned when he married her Stepmom 2 years after her parent’s divorce. To top it off, her Stepmom had 2 kids who were almost the same age as Shell and her brother (8). Her transition was a little smoother than her brothers….at 1st.
Conflict
The conflict began when her Stepmom insisted on being called MOM! Shell was 16 at the time and she already had a mother. Needless to say this created tension that still has not been resolved to this very day.
Where are they now
Shell’s parents have become Grandparents and she talks about the new set of trials that her blended family is experiencing. She also gives a heartfelt plea to all Dad’s out there that have become separated from their daughters.
Conclusion
In a heartfelt plea, Shell gives us a 1 minute monologue that is addressed to divorced Dad’s of adolescent girls. I can admit that her words made me tear up. She spoke her pain and anguish so that we all may do better than her Father. This is a teaching tool, in no means meant to downplay the great impact her Dad played in her life. I hope this helps someone out there.
